About

Every photograph has a story. This is mine. Some of the moments that stay with us longest are the ones we could so easily have walked past. A face beside a train window. The evening sun hanging above the palms. A quiet moment of devotion while the world carries on outside. These are the moments that draw me in. They’re also the reason I pick up my camera. I’m Paul Wakefield, a travel and lifestyle photographer with a curiosity for people, places and the everyday details that give life its character. Travel gives me the opportunity to look more closely. Somewhere unfamiliar, even the simplest things can hold your attention: the way light falls across a doorway, the rhythm of a busy street, the expression on someone’s face. My camera gives me a way to hold on to those encounters and share something of how they felt. The photographs that matter most to me carry a sense of connection. They make you pause, look a little longer and wonder about the life unfolding beyond the frame. Who is this person? What brought them here? What might it feel like to stand where I was standing? That curiosity shapes my photography. People and their surroundings belong to the same story. A face can tell you something about a place, just as a place can tell you something about the person who calls it home. I want to preserve that relationship, along with the textures, atmosphere and small imperfections that make a moment believable. My approach is thoughtful and instinctive. I look for expressive light, depth and a clear point of focus, while respecting the character of what was in front of me. The finished image should still feel alive. This collection brings together the people, places and moments that have caught my attention along the way. Each photograph offers a glimpse into a wider story and room for you to bring your own memories and imagination to it. Perhaps an image will remind you of somewhere you’ve been. Perhaps it will stir a desire to explore. Or perhaps you’ll simply feel drawn to it, without quite knowing why. I hope you find a photograph here that stays with you. Welcome to my view of the world.
